Traditionally, people in the Western world have celebrated Christmas by decorating and displaying a Christmas tree. Picking the perfect tree is also a beloved holiday ritual. Families looking for a tree can visit one of the countless Christmas tree farms across Canada, where horse-drawn wagons and hot chocolate are provided for their comfort and enjoyment. Once a suitable tree is found, a family can choose to cut it down themselves using handsaws. Trees found in these farms are usually of the pine, fir, and spruce variety; and, they take about 8 to 10 years to reach the size of a typical Christmas tree, which is 2 to 3 metres in height. Besides their beautiful, festive appearance and refreshingly crisp scent, real trees are also environmentally-friendly, as long as they are disposed of properly.
