With the COVID-19 pandemic, Halloween celebrations are taking different forms this year: from going trick-or-treating while wearing a face mask to holding virtual parties, people are finding new and careful ways to take part in festivities in these trying times.
Safety guidelines have been set for those who will participate in trick-or-treating, for both givers and receivers of candy alike. They include things like frequent hand-sanitizing, wearing a face mask, and keeping a distance of 2 meters from others. There has also been a promotion of ‘one-way trick-or-treating,’ where residents will, to maintain social distancing, leave out goodies for trick-or-treaters to simply grab and go. This method allows children to enjoy the thrill of wearing costumes and getting candy, while keeping direct contact to a minimum.
Another way that people are celebrating is by gathering together online. Whether you are dancing in costume or watching a horror movie, online parties are a great way to share experiences and feel connected to loved ones while keeping everyone involved safe from the virus. Drive-in movie theaters are also a great way to share a collective experience while maintaining social distancing.
Although this pandemic has caused disruptions in almost every aspect of our daily lives, there are still many creative, inventive options for celebrating this beloved holiday. By enjoying Halloween in a safe, conscientious manner this year, we can ensure many more spooky and fun times to come.
